Multimedia Communication Systems
This course introduces the students to the general concept and definition of multimedia, video and audio compression techniques systems and standards, QoS architecture, multimedia support in shared Media LAN and MAN, Transport Network Architectures and Technologies for Multimedia Services, Multimedia OA&M and Services.
At the end of the course, the students should be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of current data compression schemes for all sources of information: audio, data, images, and video;
- Describe current compression standards and why the various design choices and tradeoffs were made;
- Demonstrate an understanding of the main issues involved in designing, implementing, selecting and evaluating data compression methods, algorithms and standards for;
- Describe and analyze common protocols used in telephone network, the Internet and broadband networks for multimedia communication.
